Oracle VM VirtualBox 3.2.10 NOW Support for Ubuntu 10.10 and Fedora 14

Oracle's VM VirtualBox 3.2.10 has been released. The update is a small release focusing on bug-fixing. However, the latest update brings support for a couple of the most popular and the most recent Linux distributions available, Ubuntu 10.10 and Fedora 14.

"It fixes a bunch of stuff and also adds support for the recently released Ubuntu 10.10 release and the forthcoming Fedora 14 too"



Highlights of Oracle VM VirtualBox 3.2.10

Fixes in the virtual machine manager (VMM):

 
· V8086 mode fix for legacy DOS/Windows guests with EMM386;
· Fixed a Guru meditation related to large pages;
· Fixed support for large pages on Linux hosts;
· Fixed a Guru meditation for large memory 64-bit guests on 32-bit hosts with nested paging;
· Performance improvements for VMs with more than 2 GB RAM.

GUI fixes:

 
· Fixed host key handling if the host key is set to Left Alt - Linux/Solaris hosts only;
· VM can be minimized from the mini toolbar;
· Handle Ctrl+Break properly on X11 hosts;
· Fixed the case where the user aborted the media selector for selecting the boot hard disk from the VM wizard;
· Added a check for Linux kernels 2.6.36 or later which are known to have the asynchronous I/O bug on ext4 / xfs file systems fixed - Linux hosts only;

Linux specific:

 
· Linux kernel 2.6.36 fixes;
· DKMS (Dynamic Kernel Module Support) fixes.

VirtualBox is a popular virtualization software now owned by Oracle after it bought Sun Microsystems. It works on all major x86 platforms and supports a large number of guest operating systems.

VirtualBox is closed source but is offered for free. There is also an open-source version dubbed Virtual Box OSE (open source edition).
